Biography/Research
Dr. Sitepu is a research scientist and the lab manager at the Phaff Yeast Culture Collection. Her research revolves around the yeast collections including maintaining and distributing yeasts to researchers worldwide; and screening yeasts for useful properties such as production of lipids and protein. The methods for screening yeasts include selection of yeasts from the in-house database of over 15,000 yeast strains, performing rapid screening of yeast in microtiter plates, scaling up using lab flask and fermentor, and data analyses. Among other strategies, screening yeasts at a strain level has been one of our approaches to obtain yeasts with target properties. Dr. Sitepu manages the Dr. Boundy-Mills lab. and supervises junior specialists, postdocs, visiting scientists and students.
