Research:
Yixing’s research focuses on programmed assembly of cell-based carriers for controlled-release of encapsulated bioactive compounds. She has studied the effect of cell-cell adherence and extracellular matrix (ECM) on bioaccessibility of encapsulated compounds through engineered cell-based microstructures. Her research further involves utilizing additive manufacturing to construct a 3D programmed cell assembly where the intra-tissue localization of cell-based carriers can be precisely controlled, and the composition of ECM is carefully designed. Upon optimization of such 3D cell assembly, it is possible to co-deliver several bioactive compounds within a single matrix, each with precisely controlled release and improved bioavailability.
