B.S. in Food Science and Technology and B.S. in Biological Sciences from Virginia Tech
Elizabeth’s research focus is on discovery of metabolite biomarkers for early detection of Citrus Greening Disease (CGD). CGD is a devastating citrus disease that has caused billions of dollars of loss to the global citrus industry. Detection of CGD is difficult to detect because of a long latency period between infection and symptom manifestation. Early detection of infected trees before symptom appearance is therefore essential to help control spread of CGD. In addition to benefitting the citrus industry, Elizabeth hopes that her research can eventually be tailored for other plant diseases.
Elizabeth graduated from Virginia Tech in 2012 with a B.S. in Food Science and Technology and a B.S. in Biological Sciences. She has previously interned in the Research and Development divisions of both The Hershey Company and PepsiCo. Elizabeth wants to pursue a career in science communication to help translate technical ideas to a nontechnical audience.
