Yu is interested in the relationship between the gut microbes and the brain. Her current project aims to understand how vaccination affects the gut microbiome.

She has a bachelor’s degree in molecular biology at School of Agriculture, Hokkaido University, Japan, and studied at University of Wisconsin-Madison for an exchange program. She has done 2 internships lasting 8 months in total at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York working in the area of bioinformatics.
