  The new brewery

In 1959 a pilot brewery was first installed at UC Davis:

On April 9 2003 we were delighted to welcome back Ruben Schneider, formerly of Lucky Lager in San Francisco, and the inspiration behind that original project. We were pleased to tell him that the brewery is still going strong.

We were doubly delighted to show him how the new 1.5 barrel brewery project was progressing.

In 2005/06, the Pilot Brewery underwent a major overhaul with much of the thanks going to our friends from Anheuser-Busch. On April 7, 2006, employees from Anheuser-Busch and faculty, staff and students from UC Davis celebrated the re-pening of the Pilot Brewery in Cruess Hall. Charlie Bamforth and Doug Muhleman, Vice President of Brewing from Anheuser-Busch christened the new brewery with a ceremonial mash. Be sure to check out http://foodscience.ucdavis.edu/about/photo-albums/brewery-opening-1for a full range of photos of the event.

This is how the wonderful jewel in our program looks now.

We hope that the new set up will be equally as successful as the first one in teaching the new element to brew. How will it look in 2057?
